2013 Vilano 5K and Fun Run

Thank you to all that participated in the 17th Annual Vilano 5K and Fun Run. This year’s event was coordinated by Elaine Dilbeck of the North Shores Improvement Association (NSIA) and supported by many volunteers from NSIA and Ancient City Road Runners. A fun time was had by all, especially by our youngest runners who finished off the morning with a one mile fun run. Congratulations to everyone for conquering the Vilano bridge and showing your support for the Vilano Beach community and NSIA. Below are the official results for both the 5K and Fun Run. Pictures can be found here courtesy of Jackie Hird Photography.

Gate River Run 2013

The 2013 Gate River Run is just a few short weeks away, so its time to talk about the ACRR members-only reserved area.

This year’s ACRR exclusive area will feature Porta-Potties, beer, massages, and a changing area. Please bring a food item to share after the race. ACRR will provide soda, water, utensils, cups, napkins, etc. You may want to bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Shelby is again heading up our Gate River Run area this year. She will need volunteers to help set up on Friday and on Saturday morning. We also need a couple of 10×10′ canopies. Please contact her if you can help.

Entrance rules– individual memberships allow 1 person to enter and family memberships allow 2 adults.

Remember– Only current club members can enter the reserved ACRR area. The entrance will be staffed, and current members will be given wrist bands. Membership dues may not be paid at the entrance. If you are not sure if your membership is up to date you can contact matanzas5k@gmail.com with any questions. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO JOIN/RENEW.

On the morning of the race, a car pool will be meeting at the Davenport Park carousel at 5:45 am and leaving no later than 6 am.

Thinking of becoming a member? In addition to the ACRR reserved area at the Gate River Run, membership includes a membership card, reduced entry fees at many local races and discounts from local merchants such as Service Pros USA, Custom K-9 Dog TrainingMango Mangos, 1st Place Sports, Seafood Shoppe, Massage by Mo, Smoothie King, Atlantic Automotive, Fish Tales, and A1A Cycle Works and Ann O-Malley’s Irish Pub.

Misc…

here is a few recent odds and ends–

  • ACRR monthly club meeting minutes from November and December.

  • Race Results from the 2012 running of Shut Up and Run.

  • Matanzas 5000 rates going up– The entry fee increases January 12th. So be sure to register now to receive the $20 rate.

  • Matanzas 5000 2012

Our club’s signature race, the Matanzas 5000 and Fun Run takes place on January 26, 2013. Race proceeds go to running teams at St. Johns County high schools and middle schools. We gave money to 16 schools this year for these teams which receive little or no funding from the School District. Over the past 4 years alone, we have donated over $50,000 to the schools in our county. There is a bonus to the school with the most entrants. Entry fee is $20.00 before Jan. 12. For race entry, race expo and sponsorship information, go to www.matanzas5k.com.

    Prediction Run

*ACRR will be hosting the first EVER Holiday Prediction Run on Tuesday, November 27. The Prediction Run will take the place of the usual Tuesday night run from Publix. Registration will start at 5:45 pm, and the run will begin at 6:15 sharp. The rules are simple: show up to run, predict your time to run the 3, 4, or 5 mile loop, and leave your watch behind. No watches allowed! The top 2 runners closest to their predicted time will win a new pair of shoes from 1st Place Sports! Other prizes will be awarded to the runner ups!*

*The entry fee for the Prediction Run is a new, unwrapped toy. We will be donating the toys to the Saint Augustine Sertoma Club, an organization that provides toys to needy families in St Johns county for the holidays. *

*Winners will be announced after the run at Ripe Bistro, where there will be free appetizers and drink specials. *

*Come out to this fun event and support a great cause! Remember, leave your watch behind!*
